THE BALLROOM HOOK
SCENE: THE EMERALD BALLROOM
The Eye in the Sky INT. SULLY’S MANSION (EMERALD NATIONAL GOLF COURSE PERIMETER) - THINK TANK (HQ) - NIGHT Situated just off the edge of the Emerald National golf course, the room is pitch black, illuminated only by a massive, curved array of surveillance monitors.
Willie (the team's security architect) stands at the console. He isn't looking at the camera feeds; he is watching the digital overlay.
Ace (a visually synthesized, engineered AI) dominates the center screen. Real-time thermal imaging and facial recognition data cascade across her face.
Willie (speaks into his coms). "Talk to me, Ace. The venue is locked down."
Ace (her audio simultaneously routing to the virtually invisible earpieces worn by the team). "Calculating. Standard CCTV is looped, but the Baron’s personal detail uses concealed biometrics. Mapping blind spots now. “Tess, you have a forty-second window to close the proximity gap for the payload before his guards sweep the floor."
The Set Up INT. THE EMERALD BALLROOM - CONTINUOUS
The camera tracks Tess Sterling (the team’s #2) from behind, a low-angle shot capturing the sway of her gown against the polished marble. She passes security, presenting her invitation, and enters the ballroom.
The room is a sea of black ties and silk, pulsing with the brassy, upbeat swing of a fourteen-piece big band. In the corner, the long stand-up bar is illuminated by warm, focused pendant lights. Jack Vance ("team leader") and Elena Brooks [Tess's sister] are stationed at opposite ends of the bar. They maintain a cover of casual conversation, but their network is fully live: Elena conceals a hidden micro-camera sweeping the floor. Jack monitors Tess's live mic. Like Tess, the entire team is wired with virtually invisible earpieces, keeping the entire crew in constant, synced communication.
The Interception
As Tess moves into the hall, heads turn. Off to the side, near a marble pillar, Scotty Lantz (GBS- 35 year anchor/host of the ‘Emerald National’ golf tournament) spots her approaching. He leans into the tight, exclusionary triangle he forms with Marcus Sterling (Phantom/Cold Master/Bagman) and the Baron.
The Baron isn't just a VIP; he is the undisputed kingmaker of world golf. He doesn't just own the ultra-exclusive Emerald National tournament and the Emerald Green course—he wields absolute leverage over the sport's global sponsorship and betting pipelines. Industry climbers and sycophants hover desperately at the edges of his orbit, but a pair of private security operatives keep the perimeter clear. Protected within this invisible fortress, he surveys the ballroom less like a host and more like an emperor inspecting his vault.
Scotty murmurs, "I know her," ensuring only the two men hear him. "That's Tess Sterling. "Scotty steps forward, intersecting Tess’s path and pulling the Baron and Marcus into her orbit.
Scotty: "Allow me to introduce the Baron, and this is Marcus Sterling."
The Card & The Counter-Surveillance
Tess doesn't offer her hand. Instead, she reaches into her cuff and produces a business card. It is a translucent wafer of rigid graphene. She hands it directly to the Baron. It lacks the heavy, ostentatious weight of the titanium cards his peers carry. As he takes it, the text seems to float within the clear substrate, glowing with a faint, bioluminescent hum. It displays only two things: the marquee logo for The 'Stick' Stratosphere, and the name Tess Sterling.
No phone number. No email. Total exclusivity.
For a man obsessed with possessing the unique, it is an irresistible trap. He stares at the physical card, mesmerized by the impossibly lightweight tech. The utter lack of contact information guarantees he will follow her. The Baron glances at Marcus, then back to Tess.
"Sterling," the Baron says, connecting the dots. "Any relation to Marcus? I see the resemblance, perhaps, in the focus."
Tess’s expression remains cool and completely unreadable. "We're not related."
Ace (V.O., through their earpieces): "Attention. Baron's security detail is rotating. The target is hooked, but you need the distraction now."
The Pivot
Elena Brooks glides into the frame, placing a light but firm touch on Tess’s arm. At the bar, Jack Vance catches the eye of the bandleader. A single, sharp nod passes between them.
The swing music dies out in a staggered, final chord, instantly replaced by the opening, aggressive staccato of a traditional tango.
The crowd instinctively pulls back, clearing a wide radius. Tess and Elena remain the sole figures on the marble floor, moving in perfect, synchronized time with the music.
At HQ, Willie watches the monitors.
The guards are completely blocked by the crowd. "Perfect ghost lane, Ace."
The Handshake
The tango ends in a sharp, definitive strike.
Tess and Elena walk to the bar, and Elena fades into the crowd.
The Baron approaches Tess with her translucent card still firmly in hand. Still reeling from the tech, he asks for “her personal cell number,” insisting she accompanies him in this week's private events.
Tess smiles. She takes his phone and smoothly retrieves her card from his grip to enter her number. Tess:“Don’t give this number to anyone.”
As she keys in the digits, the physical proximity of the card against the back of his phone triggers the payload.
Ace(V.O.): "Payload engaged. Data transfer at 100%."
At the far end of the bar, Jack Vance feels the faint, high-frequency vibration of the data transfer on his device.
Jack looks up and catches Tess’s eye with a single, imperceptible nod. The hack is complete.
Tess hands the phone back, her expression serene.
The mission is in motion.
